Statement from Common Sense Society in the United Kingdom

LONDON—With news of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Common Sense Society of the United Kingdom expresses our sadness and extends our condolences to the Royal Family, the United Kingdom, and the Commonwealth. Director of CSS–UK Emma Webb issued the following statement:

On her twenty-first birthday in 1947, the Queen declared that, “my whole life, whether it be long or short, shall be devoted to your service and to the service of our great imperial family to which we all belong.” She steadfastly served her country and the Commonwealth for seventy years as monarch.

When she passed at the age of ninety-six, Queen Elizabeth was the longest reigning monarch in British history—and the world’s longest serving head of state in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Fifteen prime ministers served under her. The first, Sir Winston Churchill, was born 101 years before the current Prime Minister, Liz Truss, whom the Queen met with just two days before her death.

Her Majesty was the beloved and dutiful mother of the nation throughout her long life. We meet the close of the second Elizabethan Age with grief and mourning. The loss of the United Kingdom’s beloved and influential monarch is felt by all.

God rest Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, and long live the King.
