From September 11-13, Common Sense Society (CSS) participated in the 2022 National Conservatism Conference in Miami, Florida. CSS president and C.E.O. Marion Smith opened the conference with a powerful charge and later introduced keynote speaker, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. In addition to engaging in discussions about ESGs, race, and the challenge of communist China, we were able to share about the principles of liberty, prosperity, and beauty at our booth.
What did we discuss?
Marion Smith’s remarks examined the role tradition, national memory, and institutions play in our nation’s success. “Since 1989, there’s been enough complacency, enough corruption, and enough cowardice,” he said. “It’s time for common sense and courage.” He challenged listeners to make the letter and spirit of our founding charters their guide to defending the American idea, place, and people. He concluded his remarks with a moment of silence in honor of those lost during the September 11, 2001 attacks.
On the conference’s final day, Smith highlighted Governor Ron DeSantis’ principled leadership and ongoing work promoting common sense policies in Florida amidst extraordinary threats. “If common sense is so obvious, why don’t we see the same thing in other states?” Smith asked. “There’s a simple answer. In times of delusion—and we are in one such time now—common sense requires uncommon courage.”
