Development Associate

Job Description

Common Sense Society (CSS) seeks a personable, detail-oriented, and entrepreneurial professional to fill the position of Development Associate. The Development Associate must be highly organized, motivated, and have excellent verbal and written communication skills. The ideal candidate can prioritize tasks, respond to requests expeditiously, and approach tasks with high levels of professionalism and discretion. The position reports to the Director of Development and is based in the Washington, D.C. metro area.

Core Responsibilities

• Support the development team with day-to-day programmatic needs including research, writing, and general organizational support
• Prompt and accurate recording and acknowledgment of donor contributions
• Manage and maintain the CSS constituent record management (CRM) system
• Work with development team to produce donor correspondence and reports
• Track and report on donor campaigns
• Provide research for grant proposals and donor meetings
• Assist with preparations for donor events and meetings
• Provide exceptional experiences for donors and other CSS stakeholders over the phone and in-person

Requirements and Qualifications

• Demonstrated commitment to CSS’ mission
• Minimum one year of relevant experience
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• The ability to take initiative to meet department needs
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with colleagues
• Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines
• Flexibility in working with new issues, topics, and approaches
