{"id":2391,"date":"2023-05-10T15:16:48","date_gmt":"2023-05-10T19:16:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.commonsensesociety.org\/?p=2391"},"modified":"2023-07-19T11:02:37","modified_gmt":"2023-07-19T15:02:37","slug":"douglas-murray-named-as-new-common-sense-society-fellow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.commonsensesociety.org\/nl\/2023\/05\/10\/douglas-murray-named-as-new-common-sense-society-fellow\/","title":{"rendered":"Douglas Murray Named as New Common Sense Society Fellow"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em><em>The renowned journalist and award-winning author joins Common Sense Society as a fellow<\/em><\/em>.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>WASHINGTON, D.C.<\/strong>\u2014<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commonsensesociety.org\/nl\/about\/\">Common Sense Society<\/a> (CSS), a leading international educational network, announced that Douglas Murray will be joining CSS as a fellow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Murray is an associate editor of <em>The Spectator<\/em>, author of <em>The War on the West<\/em>, and host of a new podcast series &#8220;Uncanceled History&#8221;. His previous book <em>The Madness of Crowds<\/em> was a bestseller and a book of the year for <em>The Times<\/em> and <em>The Sunday Times<\/em>, while his book <em>The Strange Death of Europe: Immigration, Identity, Islam<\/em> spent almost twenty weeks on <em>The Sunday Times<\/em> bestseller list and was a number one bestseller in nonfiction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;CSS is proud to announce Douglas Murray as a Common Sense Society fellow,&#8221; said Marion Smith, president and C.E.O. of CSS. &#8220;Douglas has been a fearless advocate for the Western values that make us who we are and a crucial voice against the self-destructive tendencies gripping our societies. He has brought tremendous eloquence and clear thinking to this fight, as anyone who has read his books and articles or has listened to his lectures can testify, and we look forward to working more closely with him.&#8221; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Common sense is becoming an increasingly rare and precious resource,&#8221; said Murray. &#8220;We see its sad lack manifested in the people who topple statues and the self-described public intellectuals who attack the very foundations of the West. The crucial work of CSS promoting liberty, prosperity, and beauty, and fighting these forces of collectivist nihilism, is sorely needed today. I\u2019m looking forward to joining CSS in this mission to preserve our sanity and our civilization.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Murray was previously a faculty member for CSS\u2019s Carolina Fellowship, a six-day-long intensive series of seminars that explore the foundational principles of the United States in the context of Western civilization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier this year, Murray joined CSS for a series of lectures on college campuses including UVA, UNC Chapel Hill, and Wofford to discuss free speech, the damage that Critical Theory has had on the West, and how to look at Western history honestly. An additional community event in Richmond, Virginia, titled \u201cUncanceling Richmond\u2019s History,\u201d was focused on the historical vandalism going on today, the behavior of people who destroy historic statues and attack Western history, and why many of their claims are illogical and contradictory.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-small-font-size\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.commonsensesociety.org\/nl\/about\/\">Common Sense Society<\/a> (CSS) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that promotes liberty, prosperity, and beauty through education and public discourse.
